Saima is a textile designer in Lahore, a historically royal city full of markets with a dizzying variety of pure fabrics derived from the Punjab countryside and other areas like Kashmir and China. Saima hand-selects each unique scarf and sends them to the U.S. where Saadia distributes them.
The mission of the project is to encourage women to start their own businesses, which in turn can help the artisans from their countries. It is also to introduce Americans to culture of Pakistan and South Asia as a whole, especially since art and humanity is often lost in the political dialogue of these tumultuous times.
Finally, we hope to be able to benefit the victims of political unrest and poverty as well as the earthquake victims of Pakistan and Kashmir. For more details on the earthquake, please read my freind Aisha's blog here, see some pictures here, or watch a video of Angelina Jolie during her visit with UNHCR. 10% profits are intended for the trusted work of the Edhi foundation. You may also donate to a cause of your choice and receive a 10% discount with an online or hard copy receipt from a creditable organization.
